How Write a Blog Can Change Your Life

I know this featured image is the most clickbait image of all the images on this blog. However, I just wanted to tell you that writing a blog can have a significant impact on your life (btw thank you for DSDI UGM for the appreciation of my blog, the best blogger in 2021).

Being a blogger (a blog writer) is just like being a painter 300 years ago. Nobody respected painters back then. Yet, many of their paintings are still appreciated by modern art-lovers, and they hang in museums. Maybe you haven’t felt the effects in the short term, but in the long term, it is true!

And if you haven’t started a blog yet, you should. It can change your life.

It will make you more creative.

A friend walked up to me recently and said, “Man, how can you come up with so many ideas for blog posts and projects?” — he doesn’t know that I execute on about 10% of the ideas I have.

But it’s not my natural talent (not all of it, at least). Creativity is a muscle.

And the way you keep your muscle fit is by exercising it regularly. Having a blog will force you to exercise that muscle on a regular basis.

Try writing a short piece every day in a daily journal or blog and see what happens to your brain in 3 months. You’ll be unstoppable.

It can teach you how to write.

We live in an Internet-first world. We still call the other world ‘real,’ but if you think about it, you spend way more time online than you do offline. And that’s OK, that’s just the way things are.

In this new world, you have to learn how to communicate appropriately to be heard and get what you want.

Daily blogging will not only teach you how to write — personally, my writing skills skyrocketed after the 30th post — it will also teach you to notice things in your life worth thinking about and reflecting on.

Think about it. You’re a recruiter, and you have two identical applicants for a ‘social media manager’ position. They are both ‘go-getters,’ and they both have 5+ years of experience (this is another thing I never understood, why can’t you say 6 or 7?).

But one of them has a super insightful blog on social media marketing. You scroll through the first couple of posts and can’t help but subscribe. Who would you hire?

Now imagine that you’re looking for a PR person. You have two people. One of them has a stunning resume (which, by the way, she wrote herself), and the other has a blog about PR with 1,000+ followers, where she shares her thoughts on the industry. Who’s more credible?

In today’s world, resumes are toilet paper. You need something else to get hired. And there are few better ways to showcase your knowledge, work, and expertise in the domain than writing about it.

A high-quality blog can help you showcase your work, build authority, and get hired.

Final Words

So what are you waiting for? Let’s make a blog! Especially for UGM students, you can make a college domain blog (web.ugm.ac.id) on the DSDI site, or just click here. If you’re not, you can use free services such as Blogspot, WordPress, and Medium.

Write your blog address here in the comment box below! Let’s leave traces in our blogs and share our stories!
